My mother was a storyteller who loved the Maurice Sendak story "In the Night Kitchen; a story about happenings in a kitchen at night." Similarly, with this painting, I'm imagining what happens in a garden at night while we sleep.  I have titled the painting similar Sendak's book.

The painting shows a garden with a pond, and flowers in the foreground. I used mostly greens and blues, and warmer hues of pink, red, an orange for flowers in the foreground. I'm mixing styles in this painting. The bottom half is Klimt-ish, while the top is more impressionist, aluding to Van Gogh's "Starry Night."

This work comes ready to hang. The painting extends around the sides of the canvas. So, you only need to frame it if you want to.
