This painting aims to show the contrast between soul and ego. When I speak of the soul, I refer to the essence of self, unencumbered by ego, that I encounter when I meditate (no religious connotations intended). I view ego as the identified self to which we attach our chosen labels.
The figure on the right side of the image represents the concept of 'the self' or 'the ego' and how we identify ourselves. I have used stripes from the progress pride flag to indicate my labels on this figure. In contrast, the figure on the left-hand side represents the 'soul' and blends more with its surroundings, symbolizing interconnectedness. The figure on the right is more defined and solid, while the figure on the left is more abstract and fluid.
This work comes ready to hang. The painting extends around the sides of the canvas. So, you only need to frame it if you want to.
